Cancellation Policy

• Cancellations greatly affect us because of our small size.
• When you reserve a room, we agree to turn away all other requests for that room and you agree to pay the rate quoted for the number of days you reserve it.
• Reservations are not confirmed until a valid credit card number is received.

IF A CANCELLATION IS MADE, the following is then in effect:

• No charge to your credit card for cancellations made more than 20 days before stay is to begin.
• If cancellations or date changes are made 7 to 20 days before stay is to begin, your credit card will be charged a $25.00 rebooking fee.
• If cancellations or date changes are made less than 7 days before stay is to begin, your credit card will be charged 50% of one nights stay PLUS a $25.00 rebooking fee unless we are able to reserve the room with someone else.
• If the room is rebooked, your credit card will only be charged the rebooking fee of $25.00.
• If you have a reservation and you do not show up or call, you will be charged the entire rate for the number of days for which you booked the room.
• MAJOR EVENTS: If you cancel a reservation at any time for a major event, such as Commencement or Parent's Weekend, you will be charged the full amount of the intended stay unless we can rebook ALL of those nights.
• COMMENCEMENT WEEKEND requires a 3 night minimum.
• Parent's Weekend and Orientation Week require a 2 night minimum

Inflation in the South

The South possessed 30 percent of the national wealth but had only 12 percent of the circulating currency and 21 percent of the banking assets. The cotton embargo made matters worse. In 1861, at the beginning of the War, $1.00 in gold cost $1.10. Two years later it had risen to $7.00 and one year later climbed to $20.00. Supply shortages forced the inflation rate even higher. In 1860 at the start of the War, it cost $6.50 weekly to feed a small family but by 1863 that cost rose to $68.25.  Flour was $100 a barrel,beef was $2.00 a lb., apples were $25.00 a bushel, boots were $50.00 and wood was $30.00 a cord. A bread riot broke out in Richmond in 1863 as a protest against shortages and rising costs.
