Dr. Mary E. Walker is the only woman up to the present time who ever received the Medal of Honor. She was young, vigorous, unconventionally masculine in attire and demeanor and was appointed assistant surgeon without pay and later was assigned to duty with General Sherman's armies. She talked her way out of capture once while on her way to administer to her patients but was later captured and held for four months.
Country Biking Package
On a spring, summer, or fall day there is nothing better than taking to the road on a bike and exploring the countryside. Here in Oberlin and Lorain County we now have the Rails-to-Trails Bike path running through Oberlin that is 13 miles one way and also the Back Roads and Beaches bicycle tour running from Lake Erie down to Findlay State Park. There is also an Underground Railroad Bicycle Tour offered through Adventure Cycling. We have put together a Biking Package special for all who want to ride, explore, and then rest!
